Leyte Landing Memorial (MacArthur Landing Memorial Park)
Commemorating the historic landing of General Douglas MacArthur in Leyte Gulf during the recapture and liberation of the Philippines from Japanese occupation on October 20, 1944. General MacArthur was accompanied by Philippine President-in-exile Sergio Osmena, Brigadier-General Carlos P. Romulo, Lieutenant-General Richard Sutherland, Major-General Courtney Whitney, Sergeant Francisco Salveron and CBS Radio correspondent William J. Dunn. It is on this day that MacArthur announced on a radio broadcast saying “People of the Philippines, I have returned!” At the Leyte Gulf. Japanese and American Naval forces battled for four days and is considered the largest Naval Battle of World War 2.
San Juanico Bridge Leyte
The bridge connects the Islands of Samar and Leyte across the San Juanico Strait and has a total length of 2.16 kilometers (1.34 mi) which names it the longest bridge spanning a body of seawater in the Philippines. San Juanico Bridge was built as a gift by President Ferdinand Marcos to his wife Imelda Romuáldez Marcos which was a native of Leyte Province. Construction was completed in four years and was inaugurated on July 2, 1973 on Imelda Marcos birthday.
Tinago Falls Biliran
Located at Barangay Cabibihan, Caibiran, Biliran, Leyte this 90 feet waterfalls is at the heart of the lush green rainforest. The catch basin has strong current and its cold waters would just run through the unending boulders of rocks. Currently this place has been developed as a leisure park to serve as an eco-tourism and hydroelectric power source in the area.
Kalanggaman Island Leyte
The island is famous for its white-sand beach and blue waters, and a favorite diving site due to its colorful coral reefs. It is called Kalanggaman because of its bird-like shape. “Langgam” is a Visayan word for “bird.” It is located in Palompon, Province of Leyte.
Canigao Island Leyte
Is a small uninhabited island, 20 minutes ferry boat ride west of Matalom, Leyte. It features white-sand beaches and a marine sanctuary which is best for snorkeling and diving activities.
